Responsibilities
  • Keyword research and analysis
  • On-page optimisation (e.g. optimising meta tags, header tags, content, etc.)
  • Off-page optimisation (e.g. building backlinks)
  • Competitor analysis
  • Tracking and reporting on website traffic and search engine rankings using software tools
  • Collaborating with other teams (such as content and web development) to ensure all aspects of the website support SEO goals.
  • Build knowledge of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and best practices for optimising website content, structure, and metadata.
  • Familiarity with web analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and SEMrush, to monitor and analyze website traffic and rankings.
  • Knowledge of link building strategies to improve website authority and drive organic traffic.

Relevant marketing qualifications
  • A degree in marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred, but not always necessary.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO) principles and techniques, including keyword research, on-page optimisation, link building, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and other SEO tools, such as SEMRush, Ahrefs and Moz.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, as you will be creating content and interacting with clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze data and metrics.
  • Understanding of web design, HTML, and CSS, as well as the ability to work with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress.
  • A willingness to continuously learn and stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes in search engine algorithms.
Career path

Having joined the SEO department, the natural career path would be to become an SEO Manager and eventually become Head of SEO.

Alternatively SEO skills lend themselves well to a career move into Digital Marketing with a move up to Senior Digital Marketing Executive, Digital Marketing Manager, Head of Digital Marketing or Digital Marketing Director: Overseeing the overall digital marketing strategy, including PPC, Content, CRM and SEO campaigns.
