Responsibilities

Oversee a team responsible for developing and implementing SEO strategies to improve search engine visibility and drive organic traffic.

  • Communication: Effective communication is crucial in this role, as you will need to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project management: As an SEO Manager, you will be managing multiple projects simultaneously, and it's important to have strong project management skills to keep everything on track.
  • Collaboration: SEO is a cross-functional discipline that requires close collaboration with other departments, such as content, design, and development.
  • Analyse data reports to inform strategy and optimisation decisions.
  • Collaborate with the development team to ensure technical SEO best practices are being followed.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices, and incorporate new and innovative ideas into SEO initiatives.
  • You will need to be detail-oriented to ensure that all elements of an SEO campaign are properly executed and optimised.
  • Technical SEO leadership: Develop strategies and training to provide in-depth knowledge of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and best practices for optimizing website content, structure, and metadata.
  • Familiarity with web analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and SEMrush, to monitor and analyze website traffic and rankings.
  • Knowledge of link building strategies to improve website authority and drive organic traffic.
  • Strong project management skills to manage multiple SEO initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to create and deliver regular performance reports and insights to stakeholders.

Relevant marketing qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in SEO, with a proven track record of delivering successful SEO campaigns.
  3. In-depth knowledge of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and SEO best practices.
Career path

Having worked up through the ranks of the SEO department, the natural path would be for an SEO Manager to become Head of SEO.

The skills and marketing knowledge required to lead an SEO team lend themselves well to a role as Senior Digital Marketing Manager, Head of Digital Marketing or Digital Marketing Director: Overseeing the overall digital marketing strategy, including PPC, Content, CRM and SEO campaigns.
