Be realistic - don't ask for too little, don't ask for too much
Everyone should be realistic about salary expectation - don’t ask for too much but know what you’re worth and don’t ask for too little either.
The ideal when you change jobs is of course to see an increase in your salary but people in different circumstances often move for a similar or even slightly lower salary to enjoy a better long term opportunity.
As a rule we tend to see most candidates enjoy a sensible increase of about 10-15% of their basic salary. If you feel you are underpaid and you’re expecting a bigger increase, if you are able to justify your reasons and prove your worth at interview you could be successful.
Ultimately the offer you receive from a prospective employer will be their estimation of your value, not yours. Make sure you know what your minimum salary expectation is, as well as knowing your ideal salary.
Our experienced consultants will be able to provide further advice should you wish to discuss your salary expectations in detail.
