A strong ethical standing is important for accounting professionals as they bid to seek employment opportunities, it has been suggested.
Ian Powell, chairman and senior partner at Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), said his firm values integrity and trust very highly.
Speaking to the European Business Review, he noted that the company looks for these qualities in candidates when conducting accountancy recruitment.
Mr Powell described PwC as being "a highly social organisation" which strongly believes in teamwork - something that potentially relies upon trust and a healthy relationship between colleagues.
He said the firm was "very highly networked", adding that its employees and partners "really value that social interaction".
Earlier this month, John White, president of Ireland's Institute of Certified and Public Accountants, claimed that graduates entering the profession must respect its core values in order to maintain the integrity of the sector.
He said accountants should place ethics at the centre of their professional lives.
