Timing 'is crucial to marketing'

Getting the timing right is crucial to the success of an email marketing campaign, according to one expert.
Writing for Fresh Business Thinking, Patrick Headley, sales director of GI Direct, explained that although a lot of time is spent on ensuring the right people are targeted, not enough is dedicated to ensuring the message hits their inbox when it is most relevant.
According to Mr Headley, this means that marketers could see their efforts go to waste.
He said: "Timing is, in fact, a key aspect of personalisation - possibly the most powerful."
Technological progress now means it is easier to deliver a message in a timely fashion, but marketers still need to take information about spending patterns in to account when contacting potential customers.
Yesterday, Professor Keith Fletcher, director of education at the Chartered Institute of Marketing, called on those working in the profession to ensure they keep their skills up to date in what is an ever changing world.
