Tech companies top best companies to work for listTech companies dominated the recent best companies to work for list produced by YouGov on behalf of Croner.

Search giant Google topped the list after being mentioned most frequently as the company people would most like to work for, while Apple was not far behind in second place.

Other high profile companies completed the top five with John Lewis ranking third followed by Virgin and the BBC.

However, it isn't just being a reputable brand which makes companies sought-after employers as just 11 per cent of those questioned said that a great brand makes a good company.

When questioned about what makes a good employer, workers prioritised a good working environment which may be why Google ranked so highly as it is renowned for its innovative and staff-friendly offices.

Good pay and benefits, career development and training opportunities also appeared high up on people's list of priorities.
Employees are also looking for a good work/life balance, with over three quarters (76 per cent) stating that this is something they value highly.

Croner's managing director, Andy Hague, said: "Our survey does reveal that over 40 per cent of adults believe that a great working culture and strong values make a good business, and these have been shown to provide a great source of competitive advantage in business.

"It's no coincidence that the companies named in the survey are all successful in their own right and that people would work for them if they had the opportunity."

He added that putting the needs of the workforce first is vital to being a good employer and has an effect on a company's overall success.

Fortune magazine recently released its list of top 100 companies to work for, with Google once again topping the list. However, Apple did not make it into the top 100.
