Successful email marketing 'centres on long-term relationships'

Successful email marketing centres on building a long-term relationship with customers rather than quick client acquisition, it has been claimed.
Matt McNeil, founder of email marketing company Sign-Up.to, said that many businesses have now grasped the fundamentals of email marketing but should always seek to build on their results.
"Successful email marketing is all about building a long-term relationship with the customer; it's not about quick customer acquisition and it is certainly not about buying data," he stated.
The expert added that marketers should be focusing on learning from customers' responses to their campaigns and looking to build on and improve these results all the time.
Mr McNeil's comments come after a study by Sign-Up.to found that the government, new media companies and retailers are some of the sectors operating the most successful email marketing campaigns.
In comparison, some industries, such as events, education and training, and IT had lower open rates.
