The gap between the haves and have-nots in British society is continuing to widen, according to a new report.
Research conducted by the National Equality Panel found that there "remain deep-seated and systematic differences in economic outcomes between social groups".
Gender pay issues still need to be addressed, the report stated, with men continuing to be paid more than women despite having the same qualifications.
Meanwhile, disparities in earnings are also being witnessed between different ethnic groups, the panel said.
Commenting on the report, and the gender pay gap in particular, Tatjana Hine, vice-president of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs, said faster progress needs to be made in ensuring equal treatment between employees.
"The pay gap is still reasonably wide. Over time though there have been more women in business and things have progressed," she added.
