Recruiters urged to partner with umbrella companies

A leading employment services expert has encouraged recruitment agencies to establish partnerships with PAYE umbrella companies.
Rob Crossland, managing director at Parasol, said the expertise of umbrella service providers could prove beneficial to agencies as they prepare for life with the Agency Workers Directive.
When introduced next October, it will confer equal working rights on temps after 12 weeks in a role ? a measure which critics say could damage contractor recruitment.
However, speaking to the Association of Professional Staffing Companies, Mr Crossland said PAYE umbrella firms were already well-practiced at responding to legislative changes.
He noted that despite the introduction of both managed services and intermediaries legislation during the last decade, umbrella providers have managed to sustain and improve their business models.
"By partnering with a trusted umbrella company, agencies can focus on their core business of recruitment in the knowledge that Agency Workers Directive compliance requirements are being expertly addressed," Mr Crossland said.
