REC speaks out against NICs increase

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has again raised concerns over the planned increase to National Insurance Contributions (NICs).
From April 2011, employers will be faced with a one per cent rise, something REC chief executive Kevin Green describes as being "tantamount to a tax on jobs".
"2010 is witnessing the first stirrings of a recovery in the labour market with employers starting to feel more confident about recruiting," he stated.
"Increasing taxes on business will choke off recovery and will hinder getting people back into work."
Other business groups such as the British Chambers of Commerce, British Retail Consortium, Confederation of British Industry, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Forum of Private Business and Institute of Directors have also called for the government to abandon the NICs increase.
Last month, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation reported that the number of both permanent and temporary vacancies in the UK has increased since last year.
