Professional jobseekers 'aided by private...Private recruitment firms are playing their part in helping jobseekers from professional backgrounds re-enter the jobs market, it has been suggested.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has noted that many individuals with a high-earning capacity lost their jobs ? through no fault of their own ? during the recession.

However, the recruitment industry is stepping up to help arrange them a quick return to the workplace, said Philip Curry, external relations adviser at the REC.

He explained that more than 50,000 professional jobseekers ? potentially seeking marketing, IT or accountancy recruitment opportunities ? have been helped back into work over the past few months.

Indeed, Mr Curry said the industry was "playing a vital role in the fight against the recession".

The Office for National Statistics recently reported that UK unemployment fell by 7,000 people in the three months between September and November 2009.
