New ACCA awards suite to increase accountancy options

New ACCA awards suite to increase accountancy...A new flexible suite of entry-level accountancy awards has been created, in a bid to help both UK employers and individuals looking to move into the profession.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is introducing Foundations in Accountancy, which is designed to provide a suitable grounding in financial and management services while avoiding duplication in the system.

ACCA has launched the new award following detailed consultation with a variety of potential stakeholders, including employers, learning providers, members, students and regulators.

The flexible range of entry points allows students to begin at an appropriate level, saving time and money in the long term, explained ACCA's acting executive director for learning Aude Leonetti.

"They can complete qualifications in their own time, selecting those which best suit their own career aspirations," she noted.

While Foundations in Accountancy retains a revised Certified Accounting Technician Qualification, it will see certification awarded at each level for the first time.

The aim of this is to help students chart their progress, and to help employers recruit and train to meet their particular business needs.

"Employers need to know that they are taking on competent employees in account-support roles," Ms Leonetti commented.

"And they can be assured that this new range of awards will train individuals to the same consistent and high standard of the full ACCA Qualification, which is recognised and perceived highly all over the world."

She said that employers can also be confident that candidates know how to conduct themselves professionally and ethically in the workplace.

Earlier this month, ACCA's chief executive Helen Brand claimed that the economic difficulties of the last couple of years have highlighted the value of finance professionals to UK businesses.

"As businesses have battled with cuts over the past 18-months and now look for new finance in the recovery, it is finance professionals and accountants that will be on hand to provide much needed advice," she stated.
