Message sharing 'can help market company products'

Marketing News |  05/02/2010
Message sharing 'can help market company products'Marketing professionals should do all they can to encourage message sharing between peers, it has been suggested.

Industry expert Graham Charlton noted that where email marketing materials are concerned, it is possible for mailing list subscribers to forward on materials from their inboxes to other consumers.

Writing in the Econsultancy blog, he noted that marketing materials should always include a reminder to share, as this can help firms reach out to new customers.

The added benefit of message sharing is that the end recipient has obtained the marketing materials from a friend, colleague or family member, and will potentially be more interested in reading it as a result.

Mr Charlton said that all too often, email readers do not think to share messages with their friends, meaning marketers need to make this more obviously apparent.

So where an email contains details of a promotion, discount or competition, encouraging message sharing is "a tactic worth trying", he stated.

Web security firm Symantec claimed last month that many UK businesses would now struggle to function without email services.
