KPMG named accountancy firm of the year

KPMG has been named ‘Global Firm of the Year’ for the second year in a row at the British Accountancy Awards 2011.
The Big Four professional services provider also picked up three more honours, ‘Audit Award of the Year’, ‘Community Award’ and ‘Training Manager of the Year’.
According to the award judges, KPMG was "distinguished by its approach to people", exemplified by its recruitment of school leavers.
"KPMG told the strongest story about its commitment to the Big Society and had an ingenious approach to key parts of its services," the panel stated.
They said KPMG has come further and faster in the last 12 months than any of its market rivals.
Through the KPMG School Leavers’ Programme, students embark on a six-year training programme, leading to a degree and a full ICAEW accountancy qualification.
KPMG pays all university tuition fees with students dividing their time between university at Exeter or Durham and work experience with the firm.
This scheme is designed to broaden access to the accountancy profession, and help support those from less privileged backgrounds.
KPMG picked up the audit award for its work with a new unnamed client.
The judges recognised that the firm had provided “innovative ways of adding value” and done so quickly.
"The firm's desire to understand the client's strategy, its insights and its willingness to challenge the client is refreshing and ultimately commercially beneficial," they stated.
John Griffith-Jones, chairman of KPMG in the UK, congratulated all KPMG employees and partners who were involved in the firm’s successes at the British Accountancy Awards.
"Our school leaver scheme has been widely recognised as being truly innovative at a time when the country is facing many challenges around youth employment and skills," he said.
