Public sector organisations must commit to IT recruitment over the coming months, it has been claimed.
Jeff Brooks, chair of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's Technology Group, said it was likely that many budgets in this area will be squeezed as the government attempts to reduce national debt levels.
However, he commented that IT is "a major driver of productivity gain" throughout the public sector.
"The government needs to continue to develop critical infrastructure such as the Government Cloud for shared resources and plans for super fast broadband," he stated.
"This will not happen on its own and it will need investment in skills and talent to deliver the systems we need in a global economy."
Mr Brooks said he was optimistic that any new government will understand IT is "a net contributor" to the national economy.
Nick Kirkland, chief executive at CIO Connect, recently claimed that flexibility and adaptability is crucial for IT professionals seeking new employment opportunities.
