IT professionals still opting for IE6

A number of IT professionals still use Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) during working hours, according to a new study.
Research by online ad network Chitika saw the firm studying the hour-by-hour market share of the top six web browsers, with IE6 dropping from a 13 per cent share during the day to less than six per cent in the evening.
According to the firm, it is surprising that so many IT professionals are sticking with IE6 as it has long been considered a "security nightmare".
"It almost looks like individual internet users are more tech-advanced at home than the IT departments where they work," said Alden DoRosario, Chitika's chief executive officer.
"It's crazy to think that people whose job description revolves around employees having secure ways to browse the web would keep IE6 alive, while these same employees go home to more secure browsers."
IE8 was launched in March 2009 and a platform preview for IE9 was released last month.
