IT innovation 'moving up the agenda'

The global economic recovery will be supported by investment in information and communication technologies (ICT), it has been claimed.
According to IDC, deeper utilisation of ICT resources will enable the "transformation and evolution" of the world's industries, and foster "an intelligent community".
The company stated that developments in cloud computing, Software-as-a-Service, Web 2.0 and mobile technology are fundamentally changing the way enterprises do business.
"Almost every industry is faced with the need for significant - and, in many cases, long overdue ? restructuring," a spokesperson stated ? potentially alluding to the prospect of widespread IT recruitment.
Roland Harwood, director of open innovation at Nesta, claimed this week that many firms are making research and development a primary aim following the return of growth to the economy.
UK firms are again looking to create new technologies after reducing their spending in this area during the recession, he commented.
