Firms should consider marketing recruitment if they are unable to promote their brand in a positive light, it has been suggested.
According to 33 Digital's report on the top ten issues in digital marketing in 2010, the internet revolution has created a minefield for businesses looking to advertise their products and services ? especially those which use external advertising agencies.
In order to project their activities in a positive light, as demanded by customers, firms should focus on brand integrity and authenticity, says social media practitioner Leon Benjamin.
He said brands must push their authenticity to develop an effective social media strategy and avoid slip-ups.
"People talk to people, not to brands," he commented, urging firms to invest in their own in-house marketing.
"Authenticity comes from equipping a large number of your employees with tools and empowering them to talk to the market on your behalf," Mr Benjamin added.
