HR 'vital to businesses'

HR 'vital to businesses'HR staff are vital to businesses in both good and bad economic climates, one expert has stated.

According to Professor Dave Ulrich, those working in the field have a crucial part to play in ensuring their employer survives the recession.

He said: "HR work increases productivity by attending to headcount, work processes, engagement, and compensation.

"HR work invests in employees so that they are ready for the future, not just the past."

Staff involved in HR can keep talented workers happy and this is something they will remember when the upturn comes, Professor Ulrich added.

Managers should acknowledge this and invest in HR to ensure that their firm can build sustained success, he stated.

Earlier this week, a report by the Boston Consulting Group and the European Association of People Management urged firms to ensure that their HR departments are used to plan their talent management strategies to avoid possible skills shortages.
