HR professionals 'need to be quick to react to...HR professionals need to ensure they are quick to react to the changing economic climate, it has been claimed.

New research from people assessment firm Talent Q suggests that in particular firms within the financial services sector have been slow to react to the changes, with 64 per cent of HR professionals in this area predicting that their talent strategies will remain unchanged in the coming year.

It was also noted that a fifth of finance firms will be refocusing on what they look for in potential employees, compared to almost half of public sector companies.

Dr Alan Bourne, director of Talent Q, said: "The overall results of the survey suggest that a minority of organisations take a proactive and strategic approach to talent management. This reinforces a concern that many organisations risk being unprepared for the ongoing challenges of the recession, thereby lengthening their organisation's recovery process."

He added that the current climate means it is vital to get the best out of workers and focus on succession planning and talent management through periods of change.

Research by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development recently revealed that HR professionals think change management is the most important skill they offer.
