Government 'lacks vision on super-fast broadband'

Super-fast broadband is not being taken seriously enough by the government, according to one IT industry expert.
Edd Dawson, editor of internet advice website broadband.co.uk, said that despite pent-up demand among UK consumers, there is "no joined-up thinking" over how to improve web services.
He suggested that the UK was lagging behind other countries in terms of making next-generation broadband available to households and businesses.
In doing so, he echoed the finding of a recent report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which ranked the UK 21st out of 30 developed world countries in terms of broadband speed.
Mr Dawson stated: "Lip service is being given to [the issue] at the moment but there is no serious desire from government to sort it out.
"Perhaps that might change in the next year or so, but who knows? I am not seeing any decent polices from any of the political parties at the moment over what will happen and I think we are going to get left behind."
