George Osborne targeting reduced unemployment
General News |
03/02/2010
A "more balanced economy" with higher rates of employment is needed for the UK, according to the shadow chancellor.
George Osborne told an audience in central London that while spending cuts are needed, the Conservative party has a number of other priorities, such as creating macroeconomic stability and protecting the UK's credit rating.
He claimed a Tory government would focus on boosting employment rates, meaning fewer young people would be living in workless households.
Tackling joblessness among young people is a key issue which must be prioritised, Mr Osborne claimed.
Such measures are needed to help ensure a smooth recovery from the longest recession since the Second World War, he suggested.
Mr Osborne invited the public to hold the Conservative Party to account, in the run up to the general election and beyond.
Under constitutional law, the UK must go to the polls on or before June 3rd 2010.
