Employee diversity 'contributes to business growth'

Employee diversity 'contributes to business...Diversity should be at the heart of all talent access and management activities, HR professionals have been told.

According to a new report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), many organisations are not yet up to speed in this area, and are therefore missing out on the benefits of a fully varied workforce.

The organisation urges firms to recruit and develop a whole wealth of diverse groups, then "nurture the unique perspectives they can bring".

Successful businesses are those that fully utilise the skills of all their employees in ways that are aligned to business objectives, the CIPD argues.

Claire McCartney, a resourcing adviser at the organisation, said: "It is important that organisations see talent management and diversity as more, not less important, in periods of economic uncertainty to outwit and outperform competitors through their people."

He claimed that by opening up talent opportunities, organisations will benefit from "a stream of differing views and practical answers to problems", helping them to reflect increasingly diverse customer needs and remain ahead of their rivals.

Helen Brand, chief executive of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, recently claimed that employee equality is crucial for businesses as they bid to grow and expand their operations.
