Current economic health 'reflected in the marketing sector'

The health of the marketing sector largely reflects that of the UK economy as a whole, according to one industry expert.
Bob Wootton, director of media for the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers, said that consequently there are currently "some very good indicators" in the domestic marketing sector.
He commented that television is "having a good time" at present, with strong revenue growth predicted for this month and the entire second quarter of the year.
Mr Wootton claimed that this is "a good sign", as the channel usually leads other areas of marketing, albeit with a slight lag.
"Advertising is a pretty good bellwether of the economy and is quite swiftly reactive to the economy, so if the economy surges, the advertising economy will follow and it will react to it quite quickly," he commented.
"If, however, there is a double-dip, then the advertising economy will reflect that pretty quickly too."
Last week, Strategy Analytics Digital Media reported that the global online advertising market grew by 8.5 per cent during the final quarter of 2009.
