Creative workers are happier in their jobs despite putting in extra hours, according to a recent poll.
The survey, which was conducted on behalf of Mars UK, found that the average creative professional works for eight hours and 13 minutes each day and spends around 12 of these minutes on social networking sites.
This makes people in creative jobs working days around 45 minutes longer that eh social office worker, with a slightly shorter lunch break.
However, people in creative roles, such as those within the marketing and media industries, were found to have greater job satisfaction that people in other sectors.
Overall, 50 per cent of creative workers said they liked their jobs and just six per cent hated where they work.
Jenni Morgan, trade marketing manager for Mars Drinks UK, said: “Our office census provides a fascinating detailed insight into the working day of a creative office worker, and it is a welcome relief to learn that the majority of employees are happy in their jobs. Our results also show that we are working longer hours than ever before but this has not dented our enjoyment of the job.”
The study also highlighted the demand on people in creative professions time, with the average individual receiving 31 emails a day and sending 28 as well as taking part in around 24 phone conversations.
In terms of what irritates workers, IT issues and annoying colleagues were the things most likely to be a distraction and prevent work getting done.
While many marketing professionals are happy with their working hours, it was recently suggested that a shorter day could help boost productivity.
Juliet Schor, professor of Sociology at Boston College, said that many Western economies including the UK are out of balance in terms of working hours.
