Confidence rising among chief executives, says PwCBusiness optimism has risen among UK chief executives, according to a leading player in the accountancy recruitment market.

Research conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) found that 63 per cent of business leaders are confident about the prospects for their firm this year, believing that an economic recovery is now underway.

In addition, 42 per cent said they were planning to increase their staff headcount over the coming year ? potentially good news for UK jobseekers.

Ian Powell, UK chairman and senior partner at PwC, said it was "encouraging" to see increased optimism among business leaders.

"Growth expectations have been severely impacted by the challenges of the financial and economic crisis and the fears of a protracted recession are beginning to recede," he stated.

"The upturn in employment prospects will be widely welcomed."

Mr Powell recently told European Business Review that PwC would be looking to hire over the coming months.
