Cloud computing revolution 'set to continue'

Cloud computing is likely to be a key focus area for many businesses over the coming year, a new study has indicated.
Apart from Web 2.0, the technology is the most likely to be embraced en masse during 2010, according to research conducted by Logicalis.
The firm surveyed a number of chief information officers and chief technology officers at a variety of UK companies, seeking their IT predictions for next year,
Commenting on the study, Adam Bosnian, vice-president of products, strategy and sales at security firm Cyber-Ark, explained that practically any type and size of organisation can use public or private cloud resources.
Such technology can provide them with "significantly enhanced economies of scale", he suggested.
He added: "In most data centres only a percentage of data storage resources are typically used - in effect, many server disks are spinning, being powered, air-conditioned and supported when no data is actually being stored on them.
"With the cloud, the reverse is true, with only a small minority of server/disk resources having no data stored on them."
Earlier this month, industry commentator David Linthicum told Info World that the emergence of cloud computing as a mainstream technology has provided a boost to IT recruitment in the UK.
