Cloud-based mobile applications 'set to take off'

Cloud-based mobile applications are set to increase in popularity between now and 2014, it has been reported.
Juniper Research predicts that rising business and consumer use will see the market being worth £5.85 billion by 2014.
The firm claims that growth will be driven by the deployment of the new web-standard HTML5 - HyperText Markup Language Version 5 - and the growth of collaborative services in the enterprise space.
Steve Reynolds, chairman of the Mobile Data Association, said enterprise mobility and mobile solutions are "ideally placed" to harness cloud computing.
He suggested that they would achieve "a good commercial conclusion" sooner than the fixed server and desktop environment.
Within the mobile sector, transitioning to cloud computing represents a "natural progression", he stated.
Earlier this month, David Greenfield of Network IT claimed that virtualisation technology is now being adopted by firms of all sizes.
