Changing demographics 'boosting mobile marketing'A change in the way people use their mobile phones could present new opportunities to marketers, according to one expert.

Jon Mew, head of mobile for the Internet Advertising Bureau, explained that an increasing number of consumers are opting for unlimited data tariffs, meaning they can access the internet as much as they want.

They are also using their phones to access social networking websites and this too is helping create a new audience, Mr Mew stated.

"We have seen decent growth and a change in the way people use their phones. That means you have the eyeballs there," he said.

Firms are increasingly looking to spend money on mobile marketing in order to capture this growing demographic, Mr Mew added.

Yesterday, a study by StrongMail revealed that social media is becoming an increasingly important part of businesses' advertising strategies.

It found that 66 per cent of firms plan to integrate email and social networking campaigns during 2009.
