Businesses will continue to turn to IT to help increase efficiency levels, industry experts have claimed.
John Enck, managing vice-president for infrastructure and operations at Gartner, noted that in today's economy, firms are mandated to use technology to increase productivity while reducing costs.
They must invest in solutions which provide IT excellence and offer them "a competitive edge", he stated.
Mr Enck commented: "Chief information officers will invest in innovative technology if it increases productivity, protects their existing IT investments, and demonstrates real benefits that will extend the life of the data centre."
Adding his view, Mario Mazzola, senior vice-president of server access at Cisco, said virtualisation technology now offers "the potential to transform the computing environment and deliver significant benefits".
"The virtual machine has become the new atomic building block of the data centre," he claimed.
Earlier this month, Daragh O'Brien, a member of the International Association for Information and Data Quality, urged firms to invest in data storage solutions to protect the integrity of their business records.
