Brits 'more stressed at work'A new study has found that Brits are more stressed at work than they were 12 months ago, particularly in London and the West Midlands.

Research by LearnHR found that 49 per cent of people are more stressed and anxious than at this stage last year, which may be of interest to people in HR recruitment.

Personnel Today reports that the areas of the West Midlands and London ahs the most stressed staff, with 57 per cent and 52 per cent respectively reporting higher levels of anxiousness over the last 12 months.

The study also found that 20 per cent of people are expecting to have to take some time off during 2009 due to a stress-related illness.
Christine Tebbut. education director at LearnHR, told the site it was "worrying times for companies and their staff up and down the country".

"Now more than ever, we need a workforce which is operating to its full potential, and it is vital that businesses recognise the role that HR and personnel departments play in rebuilding confidence and maintaining a productive workforce," she added.

Sarah E Needleman recently wrote in the Wall Street Journal that IT workers will remain in demand during the current economic downturn.
