A number of businesses within the UK could be set to increase the number of apprentices they employ, according to reports.
In news that may interest people in personnel recruitment, the government hopes for businesses to take on at least 400,000 apprentices a year, with the figure currently at 225,000.
The Financial Times reports that 20 per cent of young people in the UK hope to enter vocational schemes but there are currently difficulties to place all of these in apprentice positions.
ConstructionSkills claims that businesses will have to embrace apprenticeship schemes, citing a report by the Apprenticeships Task Force that found that recruitment costs were lower and staff retention rates higher for apprentices.
Speaking about the current situation, the skills body told the newspaper: "There are hundreds of thousands of construction firms in England but only a fraction of these are taking on apprentices."
Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, recently said that increased concerns about the environment will help boost the green jobs sector next year.
