Systems Administrator

This role presents a unique opportunity to join an exciting online e-gaming/e-gambling company based in North London, that requires a talented hands-on Systems Administrator to play a key role. Your knowledge will influence the choice of technologies and framework to support the development and running of a highly transactional web application; whether it will be FreeBSD OR Linux OR OpenSolaris / Solaris. It is imperative that you have excellent experience in one of these and the ability to implement and architect the appropriate solution.

The choice of operating system (FreeBSD, Linux or Solaris) will be guided by you and your skill set.

There are exciting and tight launch deadlines so you will need to be a very good communicator confident, analytical and able to make clear decisions. Your role will include providing system administration, network monitoring and administration, database administration, analysis and design from providing an appropriate environment for testing or configuring and maintaining the internal office network, email and required hardware. The position will also include developing appropriate back-up strategies and documenting all systems.

It essential that you have worked in a similar role in the past supporting a high traffic, high availability web application – please ensure this is clearly indicated on your CV.

Technically you must have experience with all or most of the following: installation, configuration and tuning of Apache, Java (standard edition), Tomcat, Subversion, PostgreSQL, shell scripting (bash, awk), Trac, Java Build deployment tools like Ant, Maven or TeamCity, HTTP, DNS, SMTP, SSL, configuration of switches/routers and firewalls in Ethernet networks and monitoring tools like Nagios or Zymon/Hobbit.

Though not essential it would strongly support your application if you had experience with the following: LDAP, SNMP, Virtualisation like Amazon EC2, S3 or other cloud based systems, hosting from multiple data centres, HTTP accelerators like Squid, load and resilience testing and hardware random number generators.
